The chorus was written while in the throes of infatuation, and the verses after it had become obvious that things weren't going how I'd planned. This song seemed like a fitting end to the album.
lyrics
Oh Miss Smart, is it a shameful thing
to hear your name in the songs that I sing?
and if it is let me know, 'cause I can arrange
to have that last name of yours changed
I only ever wanted to make you smile and blush
and if these songs I sing are a little much
I can only hope in the end
that they will have been enough
to convey what you've meant to me
so even if there will be no last name change
you can look back and listen to these songs and say
"there was a man in love with me for a day
who was willing to give up anything"
and though that should not be needed
know that you are worth
more than these songs
and more than these words
and so I leave them to you
to remind you of a time
when for a while I was yours
and for a time you were mine
Oh Miss Smart, is it a shameful thing
to hear your name in the songs that I sing?
and if it is let me know, 'cause I can arrange
to have that last name of yours changed
so let this stand a tribute
to the good that was
and I hope that when you listen
it still makes you smile and blush
Oh Miss Smart, is it a shameful thing
to hear your name in the songs that I sing?
and if it is let me know, 'cause I can arrange
to have that last name of yours changed
